Have you ever tasted a dark rum that you will never forget? That is what you will get when you taste Zacapa premium rum. The creation of the Zacapa rum began in eastern Guatemala in 1976 and from there has become one of the finest tasting rums known around the world.
Zacapa premium dark rum is made first from concentrated press of sugar cane, known as virgin sugar cane honey. Then they age it 2,300 meters above sea level in the extremely beautiful Quetzaltenango highlands. This is where the cool mountain air slows the ageing process, creating a unique complexity of flavor. Actually this place is known around the world as the “House Above The Clouds” and is one of the highest aging facilities in the world.
Within this aging facility they use a process called Sistema Solera to age the rum and give it the flavor that has made them well known. This aging process was designed by the Spaniards 500 years ago to age sherry and was adopted by Zacapa to create their premium dark rum. The Zacapa while aging is passed through several casks that previously housed American whiskey, Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenez wines.
